Hi DTH alumni,
Over the weekend, about 70 of us gathered in Chapel Hill for the inaugural Daily Tar Heel homecoming. It was a huge success!
Alumni from several generations, including 12 editors-in-chief, attended. We had two jam-packed days of networking and professional workshops led by alumni doing innovative work in journalism and media. On Saturday evening, we all gathered at R&R Grill for a dinner party where we reminisced, reconnected and honored Edwin Yoder, our first Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. You can see pictures from the weekend in the post below and on Facebook here.
We also raised about $1,500 for The Daily Tar Heel — we’re still calculating the exact amount — money that will pay for much needed computer improvements. We are still raising money for student travel, technology equipment for the newsroom and scholarships, and you can make a much-appreciated, tax-deductible donation here.
If you were unable to make this year’s homecoming, we missed you! But don’t worry, this will be an annual event. Mark your calendars for next year. In the meantime, the DTH Alumni Association will be hosting regional mixers over the summer in several cities across the country. Email alumni@dailytarheel.com if you want to get involved.
If you haven’t already, please join the Alumni Association by filling out your profile to stay connected and for more opportunities to give back to the DTH and its current staff.
Thank you for all that you’ve done for The Daily Tar Heel — which celebrated its 123rd birthday on Tuesday! To commemorate the occasion, editor-in-chief Paige Ladisic compiled a list of reasons we all love and are grateful for the DTH. (Warning: It will make you feel very nostalgic!)
Please send your ideas for the Alumni Association or how we can improve next year’s Homecoming to alumni@dailytarheel.com. We want to hear from you!
Best,
Maddy Will
