Courtney Mitchell will be the new general manager of DTH Media Co.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Courtney Mitchell will be the next general manager of DTH Media Co., the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that houses The Daily Tar Heel and 1893 Brand Studio.

Mitchell graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2001. She brings nearly twenty years of public relations and communications experience to the role, where she will be responsible for managing the day-to-day business operations of The Daily Tar Heel and advising the newsroom. Previously, Mitchell has worked in communications at the University and UNC Health, and she currently owns and operates Superscript Communications, specializing in writing and communications strategy.

The DTH Media Co. Board of Directors appointed a seven-member hiring committee to conduct the search for a replacement for Erica Perel, who left the DTH in April after three years as general manager and 10 as newsroom adviser. The hiring committee included two members of the Board of Directors, two student leaders, two DTH alumni and the DTH’s managing director of sales & strategy.

“Courtney stood out due to her enthusiasm for guiding our students, as well as her understanding of where the DTH currently is and where we’re going,” said Anna Pogarcic, the 2019-20 editor-in-chief of the DTH. “I feel confident that she will fit in well with our newsroom, and I can’t wait to see where she takes us during her leadership.”

Mitchell’s first day will be June 1.
